From Chronic Pain to Effective Therapy
meet Helena, your therapist

Awari stands for ‘lover of awareness’. That’s me, forever chasing deeper understanding, especially when life throws curveballs like restless legs my way. Those moments? My fuel for change. When experts say “impossible to heal” I hear “challenge accepted.” Through my own journey, I’ve uncovered a pathway that goes beyond the usual. At Awari, I’m all about freeing you from chronic pain and diving into deep relaxation. Because sometimes, the impossible just needs a fresh perspective.
My Journey with Chronic Pain
Hi there, my name is Helena and I hail from the Netherlands. Like many, I’ve had my share of struggles with chronic pain. Through a journey of research and personal experience, I found a combination of approaches that brought me relief. This discovery sparked a passion in me to learn more.
Developing a Unique Approach
I became accredited in a highly effective therapy and combined it with emotion work, massage, and a deep understanding of how pain functions in the brain. My unique perspective as both a patient and a practitioner has led me to refine my approach into a motivational and workable process.
A New Path Forward
The result is a novel therapy method that combines the best aspects of various existing treatments, offering hope. Every individual’s experience with pain is unique, but I believe there’s always room for positive change. If you’re ready to explore new possibilities in managing your pain, I’m here to walk that path with you.

No referral is required to see me, but I always encourage discussing your health with your GP, especially for chronic pain. You’re welcome at any stage of your health journey – whether you’re considering your first treatment or have already tried various options. While traditional treatments like physiotherapy, medication, or surgery may be suggested, I offer a holistic alternative that could provide relief. If you’ve explored other options without finding the comfort you seek, or if you’re looking for a different approach from the start, I’m here to help. To learn more about how I might assist you, please visit my treatment page.
I use a technique called osteopressure in my practice. This therapy can be described as a very deep form of massage that thoroughly relaxes all tissues and helps recalibrate the pain response in the brain. While it doesn’t typically cause pain, it does create a unique and often intense sensation. Most clients find it deeply relaxing – some even fall asleep during treatment!
The intensity is always adjusted to your comfort level, and we’ll communicate throughout the session to ensure you feel at ease. You’re always in control and can request less pressure at any time. Your comfort and well-being are my top priorities.
Before your first session, I recommend reading our liability waiver. This helps you understand the process and what to expect.
If you’re pregnant and experiencing pain, I encourage you to email me directly to discuss your specific condition. Every pregnancy is unique, and I want to ensure we make the best decision for your health and your baby’s well-being.
We’ll carefully evaluate whether it’s appropriate to begin therapy now or if it’s better to wait until after your baby arrives. My treatment and therapy can be adapted for many conditions, but during pregnancy, extra caution is necessary.
I can treat a wide range of chronic pain conditions. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Back, neck, and shoulder pain
- Headaches and migraines
- Hip, knee, and foot pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Tennis and golfer’s elbow
- Sciatica and piriformis syndrome
- Postural issues like hunchback or pelvic tilt
- Tendonitis and bursitis
- Some forms of tinnitus
Also, have a look at my treatment page for more in depth information.
If you’re experiencing pain and aren’t sure if I can help, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can send me a message on the contact page with a detailed description of your pain – where it hurts, how often, the intensity, and how it affects you. Even without a formal diagnosis, this information gives us a starting point to discuss the best approach for your unique situation.
It’s not surprising that you haven’t heard of this therapy before. My approach is a unique combination of highly effective techniques developed in Europe that are still relatively unknown in Australia. These methods, some of which are taught in German, have been gaining recognition overseas for their success in treating chronic pain.
I’ve brought this specialized approach to Hobart to offer a truly transformative option for pain relief. By combining these proven European techniques with personalized care, I aim to provide a distinctive and effective alternative to traditional pain management methods.
This therapy represents a fresh perspective on treating chronic pain, and I’m excited to make it available here.
Why not give this therapy a try? It’s a non-invasive option that can be explored before considering more invasive treatments like surgery or long-term pain medication. Many find relief here even when therapies like physiotherapy hasn’t fully helped. After just one session, you’ll know if it’s effective for you. Even if it doesn’t completely resolve your pain, most clients experience deep relaxation. With an investment similar to a standard massage, you have little to lose and potentially much to gain. This could be your first step towards significant pain relief or simply a new way to promote relaxation and well-being.
Yes, you will stay fully clothed during the therapy. There is a dressing room in the building for your convenience. Please wear something comfortable and stretchy in which you would normally do sports for example.
I understand that finding time for self-care can be challenging. No worries! I offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your needs. Weekend and evening appointments are available, there is a surcharge due to the non-standard hours. Your health and well-being are my priority, so I’m happy to work around your schedule. Just send me a message on the contact page and we’ll find a time that suits you best. Let’s make sure you get the care you need, when you need it.
This innovative pain therapy nurtures your body’s inner ecosystem through three interconnected steps:
Osteopressure: The Mycelial Network
We begin with osteopressure, applying precise pressure to specific points. This is like activating the mycelial network in a forest – a vast, interconnected system that allows plants to communicate. Just as mycelium carries messages from roots to treetops, osteopressure sends signals throughout your body, all the way to your brain. This resets pain receptors and reduces muscle tension, creating a ripple effect of relief through your entire system.
Fascia and Muscle Stretches: The Winds of Change
Next come specialized stretching exercises, targeting all your body’s tissues. These are like the natural winds in an ecosystem. Without wind, dead trees and branches remain stuck, creating stagnation. Similarly, our sedentary lifestyles limit our movement patterns, leading to ‘stuck’ tissues and alarm pains. These stretches reintroduce the ‘winds’ to your body, encouraging a full range of motion. By listening to these alarm pains and moving more, we clear out the stuckness, restoring a healthy inner environment.
Foam Rolling: The Rejuvenating Flood
Foam rolling acts like a gentle, controlled flood in your body’s landscape, serving two key purposes. Firstly it refreshes your body’s inner fluids, like a river flushing out old sediment and bringing in fresh water. This process clears waste from your tissues and introduces nutrient-rich fluid. Secondly it encourages your body’s ’tissue architects’ (fibroblasts) to rebuild and reshape. These fibroblasts are constantly at work, weaving new fascia threads. Foam rolling signals them to break down tangled, matted areas of fascia and rebuild them in a healthier pattern. It’s similar to how a controlled flood might reshape a riverbed, removing old debris and creating a smoother flow. This approach addresses the root cause of stiffness by removing fascial tangles. As a bonus, it also relaxes tense muscles, similar to how a flood softens hard ground.
Why They Work Together:
- Osteopressure activates your body’s communication network, preparing for change. Providing immediate relief.
- Stretching introduces movement variety, clearing out stagnation. This addresses the root cause of the pain.
- Foam rolling renews and rejuvenates your tissues, maintaining flexibility.
This holistic approach views chronic pain as a signal from your body, not just a symptom to mask. By addressing both immediate discomfort and underlying causes, it offers a path to lasting relief without drugs, injections, or surgery.
The therapy empowers you to become the steward of your body’s ecosystem. With consistent application, many experience significant improvements in pain levels and overall mobility, rediscovering the natural vitality and freedom of movement that comes from a well-tended inner landscape.
